For Fun

Around here “fun” can be misconstrued. One second they are screaming, then laughing, then biting, then hugging. When there is a silent pause I never know if it is the calm before David’s piercing shriek or if he has gotten over it and moved on to something else. This started out as a fight, Eden or David trying to take the blanket away from each other. As David had a death grip on it, he realized that he could be dragged across the room. Now fighting for the blanket is a fun game they like to play.

Sometimes kids are like pets!

A funny moment from Eden: this morning in the car Eden was talking to her armless barbie doll with green hair. I was enjoying the silence so I wasn't really listening. After a few minutes I tuned in to what she was telling her barbie.
Eden: "Listen dolly, you need your diaper changed. Lay down, I'll change your poo-poo. Ok?"

My Wife

Today I am taking a different turn. I seem to post about the same things…cute pictures of the kids, my latest shopping deal, crafts or sewing project and occasional outings. I thought I would scratch a little deeper and share some personal feelings. As I have gotten older I find it fascinating how my perspective changes. When Paul and I were first married he always referred to me as, “his wife”. I told him I thought that was annoying. People know my name, they know you are married…so why not just say Cyndi? I had forgotten about this until a few nights ago when I went to the play “Evita” with a friend who is in Paul’s law school section. (By the way, the play was fabulous…thanks a bunch Shelly) She mentioned that Paul always says, “my wife” instead of “Cyndi”. I had totally forgotten about this and how it used to bug me. I used to feel like he was taking away my identity. As if he was controlling my name with the phase that belonged to him. But now I have a totally different opinion. I understand now that he uses that term as a form of respect. I am not just Cyndi, I am his spouse, a part of him that he doesn’t want to ever be divided from. It is a term of endearment that no one else can claim! It belongs to me and me only. I am thankful for time, time which allows me to learn and understand things on a deeper level.

Diaper Duty

I am loving life this week! Paul is on diaper duty for the whole week! I haven't changed a diaper in 3 days!! Can you believe that? I just can't use enough exclamation marks!
On Thursday evening we were watching Lost and I recognized one of the characters on a preview. Paul didn't think it was the same person...long story short I was right and now he is in charge of all diapers when he is home. Luckily for me, he has been home almost all weekend. Paul has been such a good sport, I think he changed at least 5 poopy diapers yesterday alone.

Surprise Smash

My sister sent us a fun Valentines package. It was so thoughtful. Thanks Amber. We love you.

Everything Princess

Lately Eden has been intrigued with anything Princess. I don’t know where it came from. I had purchased these Princess Pj’s at Wal-Mart a few months ago for $1.50 and thought they would be fun for Valentines Day. She found them under my bed and insisted on wearing them. She is going on a continuous 48-hour period of wearing them. Hey, lately she has been taking off all her clothes so I am just happy she is clothed.

If it fits Mr. Potato Head why not kids?

The most important meal of the day

We love breakfast around here, especially David who can pound down the pancakes. Today I decided to do something about my pancake problem.

Problem: smoky, food smell. Since our kitchen is so small and stuffy the smell stays like a gloomy cloud. If I try to open a door, the kids make a mad dash!

How to fix it: I pulled out our griddle (which practically takes up all the counter space) and made 3 batches of pancakes. I also made them from scratch (whole wheat & blueberries), which makes me feel better since I know they will be dipped in syrup. Then off to the freezer they will go for this week's breakfast. Does anyone else have great tips for breakfast?

Green eyes

Being the only green eyed child in my family, I am happy to report that David has green eyes! At least for right now, they resemble green more than blue.

It started out...

as a fun family night activity of horsey rides but quickly turned sour when Eden fell off and landed right on her shoulder. After 5 hours in the emergency room, she was discharged with "wings" and pain medication for her broken clavicle. I was worried I over reacted because in the waiting room she was singing, talking and playing..but as soon as they called her name and we walked back to the room she started crying and kept saying, "no, don't touch me". In three weeks she should be back to normal.

Greatest family

Yesterday Paul ran in the room and told me to grab the camera. I knew it must be a rare sight with his excitement. I came downstairs and quickly captured our two little buddies actually being buddies.

The cutest couple is in Eden's nursery. Yesterday they said she must watch American Idol because she just belts out songs and spins around. She calls them her "princess songs" because she just saids "princess" over and over again. I caught her singing in the mirror the other day.

Turns out he had a sewing class in 7th grade, that is classic Paul. He is a great example of someone who actually remembers and uses what he has learned. I love him for that! I love you Babe.

Continuing Christmas

The after Christmas sales are something I always look forward to. Now that it is February you might think all the goods are gone. However, now is a great time because they are making way for all the spring toys. Today I got this Christmas Cabbage Patch (I know the costume is a little funny) for $3! Hey, Eden will love a holiday baby next year. Also, this outdoor communication set for $4. Next Christmas they will just love playing with it. Up in the attic they go. With three birthdays in December, I always have to plan ahead!

Unfinished business

We got a camera! Paul let me do all the research and buy one (because the last two he has researched and bought...he always spends WAY more than I would have). Since I am the one who either looses it or lets it fall in the hands of our children I decided I wanted a more budget friendly camera.

This past week I have been obsessed with all my projects. I start new ones before finishing the old ones. I had wipe cases, hair bows, headbands, curtains and dresses all in my sewing area (which happens to be the kitchen table). I finished up some loose ends today. I needed to measure this dress on David, I figured since he had the dress on I should add the bow to complete the look.

David's new word

David is always climbing on top of the entertainment center. He had fallen off once, but that doesn't stop him. We have tried several different things, the most consistent thing is saying, "no" in a serious tone. David has evidently picked it up. Now I know whenever he is on top of the entertainment center because he will be sitting up there shaking his head saying, "no no". In the mornings I hear Davey saying, "no" then Eden yelling "no" back, they keep going at it. The other morning Davey was saying , "no" and Eden kept saying, "yes, Day-Day". Eden was getting upset as her answers quickly turned into a scream. They are funny.

First Kiss...

Was anyone else's first kiss like this? I received this in an email over a year ago, I think it is so funny. Kids are so innocent when it comes to putting things in their mouth.

Camera Tragedy

Our blog is going to be picture less for awhile since our lovely daughter threw our camera in the bath tub yesterday!

Punishment for child: Mom letting out a shriek, then calmly trying to explain that we don’t put things in the water.
Punishment for parents: buying a new camera

I am just sick about it. Paul is always telling me that I shouldn't let the kids touch or play with things that are not toys. For example, the phone, remote, computer mouse, keys and of course the CAMERA. He is right, I have been to relaxed with letting the kids touch things. How, when & where did she manage to get the camera in a matter of seconds and dropp it in the tub? All very good questions. Where was I? Right there! These little children are like magicans, if I am not watching them every second I am bound to miss something. I wish we had tall shelves all over the house that we could put everything on…but then they would just find a chair and climb up and probably knock down the whole shelf! Got to love kids.
